Where It All Started (flashback log)

tsubasa-senpai:

“Mm-hmm, really.” He nodded with a grin tugging at his lips. It was always this same response whenever he told people he had a hobby apart from — whatever it was they imagined that he did in his spare time. Basa didn’t particularly mind it, as it was always interesting to watch the surprise in their faces. And at least this way, he’ll hopefully have given the title ‘delinquents’ an overall better image in other people’s eyes.

“I wouldn’t say I’m excellent, but I’m decent at it. If you really want to see I don’t mind.” He smiles back, having to refrain from commenting on how much the other looked like a pleading puppy right now because gosh, that would be incredibly rude. “I guess the student council does take up a lot of your time, hm? I’m only taking a wild guess here, but could you possibly be aiming for president in your third year?” And just as they were on the topic, the student council room was soon right in front of them.

If it was possible for his eyes to grow wider, it would, at Tsubasa’s response. “You’ll really let me?! I’d love to see them whenever!” His smile was still on, looking up at Tsubasa excitedly. Ah, he was slowly befriending this person, and he really didn’t turn out as bad as he’d thought! Not that … Kee ever thought he was ‘bad’ or anything. Just … maybe stereotypical delinquent type. Definitely not someone with a nice smile and had an affinity for the arts.

“It is! Especially since I’m the new kid, so kaichou picks on me a lot.” He gave a sigh, the books in his hand a painful reminder of that fact. At Tsubasa’s question he actually had to pause for a while, thinking about it. Student council president, huh? “Hm, I didn’t think about that…” he mumbled, looking up at the ceiling before looking back at Tsubasa. “But that doesn’t sound like a bad idea! I’d be better than the current kaichou, at least!” He chuckled, before stopping in front of the student council room. “Here we are!” Giving a knock, he opened it, excusing himself in and leading Tsubasa inside. Oh, no one was inside! Good, good. He placed the pile on his desk, waiting for Tsubasa to do the same.

“Thanks for the help, Tsubasa-kun! I think I’d have fallen down halfway through if it wasn’t for you!”

Where It All Started (flashback log)

tsubasa-senpai:

If Basa had to describe him in one word, then Kee would definitely be something along the lines of cute. A little short for someone their age but the amount of energy he exuded could rival that of the summer’s sun, only it wasn’t quite as suffocating or overbearing because the way he then gets all flustered over his own words and trips over the next was honestly just really endearing to watch, and was partly also what Basa found so intriguing about this person.

“Well then, thank you for everything, Kee-kun. I’ll take that as a compliment~” He couldn’t help but to tease him a little, seeing the other act all polite and embarrassed around him like a high school girl when no one’s ever really even tried to get close to him before, with the exclusion of Micchan and some of the other gang members. It wasn’t like he disliked associating with people either - although too large a crowd and he’ll feel uncomfortable - but no one’s ever approached him because of the rumours that kept spreading around about the group and he supposed they weren’t always the most civil of people. Still, it’s been a while since anyone’s taken notice of him and has given him such a friendly welcome, so Basa was honestly really happy and glad that Kee was the first person he got to speak to.

“At the moment, I don’t have any plans to, no. But I do want to go check out the art club at some point. I enjoy drawing and painting, you see.” Glancing over, he side-steps so they were standing close enough for their shoulders to touch. “What about you Kee…-kun? Are you in anything apart from the student council?”

Was he teasing him? It — kind of felt like he was. Kee couldn’t help the pout on his face, before it faded away, mostly because this was someone he just met and he couldn’t very well just … act that way. Besides, it was a compliment! Indirectly, he supposed, and he was just glad he didn’t come off as creepy, after all. Or Tsubasa was just too polite to say anything about it. Either way, he was grateful for that. He didn’t want Tsubasa to just run off suddenly because he thought he was weird. He truly was interesting, and Kee found himself wanting to befriend this person. He didn’t seem bad at all, really. Completely contrary to what he figured a delinquent would be like (which he assumed Tsubasa was, from the day earlier).

“You draw and paint?! Really?!” And here Tsubasa was, again, breaking away all his stereotypes of delinquents. Ah, he’d never had thought someone like him would like art. “Are you any good?” he asked, though he quickly shut up, when Tsubasa bumped his shoulders with his own, making Kee suddenly very very conscious about  Tsubasa’s presence. God, he just hoped he went about normally now. “Ah, I’m not. I figured I’d need to focus on student council things first! And nothing else really grabs my interest …” There wasn’t really anything else he wanted to do, to be perfectly honest. “I really want to see your drawings, though! Can I see them some time?” Kee looked up at him, smile on his face, eyes practically sparkling at his request.

tsubasa-senpai:

That long pause and bewildered expression immediately gave the other away; so he had failed to recognize him at first, it would seem. Suppose it wasn’t his fault, he did look considerably neater in comparison to his scruffy appearance yesterday. But he honestly hadn’t expected it to make that big a difference overall… what would he know though? He hasn’t even worn a proper uniform in years now.

“Yes, it’s me.” He laughs it off lightly, giving him a small wave, “I thought it might not be such a good idea if I came in to school with the same dress code as yesterday, so I decided on a little makeover for myself…” Pausing once, he then adds with a grin on his face, “Though even if I did, the president would probably just have your head instead of mine for talking back, hm?”

Sliding half the stack of books from the pink-haired boy into his own arms, Basa carries them with little to no effort, already walking off towards the direction of where he vaguely remembers the student council room to be. ”Thanks for defending me yesterday though. If it weren’t for you, I might have spent last night agonizing over my apology letter.” He chuckles and smiles down at him again. “I’m Tsubasa, a first year just like you I would assume. And what about you? How should I call you?”

It was such a big change, Kee really couldn’t be faulted for not recognizing him immediately. Ah, that laugh was really nice. He didn’t think it’d come from someone who just looked so … different a day before. Like a delinquent. Truth be told, Kee had expected him to be a bit scarier, a bit meaner and tougher, but that wasn’t really the case, wasn’t it?

Kee gave him a pout at the mention of the president, cringing slightly as he stood. “Kaichou’s really scary. You definitely don’t want to get on his bad side!” He’d gotten on his bad side on his first day and Kee knew he wouldn’t want to bestow the same situation on anyone else. “But I’m glad you decided to change! You look better now~” He gave a smile, just until he realized what he said and quickly tried to take it back. “I-I mean, not that you didn’t look good with the delinquent look! You looked really cool, but this is just ah - nicer?”

Smooth, Kee.

Heaving a sigh of relief when the other boy took the books, Kee followed him,  walking much more steadily. At the thanks, Kee looked up at him, his own smile met with one of Tsubasa’s and — oh. That was nice. He could feel his face heat up at how nice he looked smiling at him like that. Damn being weakened by nice smiles. Kee looked away, shaking his head. “It isn’t a problem at all! An apology letter on your first week would have been terrible.”

He turns his gaze back at Tsubasa (wow that was long), and nodded. “Nice to meet you, Tsubasa-kun! You can just call me Kee. Oh, yeah, I know you’re a first year! I actually saw you in the entrance ceremony, too —” Holy shit did he just admit to somewhat stalking him sweet jesus, save yourself, Kee. “I-I mean, your hair was really noticeable and red and you stand out and it’s really hard not to notice and you’re pretty tall so … and … and … ” Oh god. He looked away, staring hard into the pile of books in his hand, face heating up once again. Way to seem creepy, Kee. There was only one thing to do now: change the subject. “S-so are you planning on joining any clubs, Tsubasa-kun?”

Where It All Started (flashback log)

tsubasa-senpai:

His first day of high school began with a lecture from the student council. The president had complained about his hair, his piercings and accessories, his shirt, his lack of a school blazer, his baggy, untrimmed trousers — everything from head to toe that Basa had decided was a better revised version of the school uniform. To be honest, he had no intentions to change. But the student council had been insistent and even demanded for a written apology and Basa honestly would have punched someone if not for the first year who had stepped in to help convince the president and spared him from the trouble.

Today was his second day, and so far his revised dress code only seems to be earning glances from his fellow classmates. It felt suffocating to have his shirt done up to the second button, to wear that navy blue blazer ironed way too straight and rigid for his comfort, that strange, lonely feeling of no longer being able to step onto the cuffs of his trousers as he walked — it was altogether a little uncomfortable to him but nothing he can’t deal with. It definitely wasn’t that he wanted to repay that first year for helping him out, and definitely not because he found it rather endearing how they stuttered and stumbled over their words when they spoke up for him yesterday (ah, his cheeks were kind of flushed too...), it was definitely just because it would make him feel bad if someone were to get into trouble because of him. And over something as trivial as the dress code? He wasn’t that much of a pansy.

Turning round the corner, Basa was just about to slip into his own classroom when a familiar figure caught the corner of his eye. Light pink hair and bright purple eyes that you could never miss, the first year seemed to be struggling with the large stack of books that were threatening to topple over any second now. He changes direction and heads their way in large, confident strides, never forgetting his signature smile before giving them a light tap on the shoulder. “Hey, do you need any help with carrying those~?”

He didn’t really think he’d have to do much work as the first year representative but well, his second day on the job proved him wrong. He was already carrying books - a pile of it, in fact - from his classroom to the student council room. Ah, the student council. One day, he was definitely going to hold a higher position than his current one! Truth be told, Kee wasn’t really that ambitious. He did like the attention, though, and he figured holding a higher position would be better. Maybe next year, he can be vice president under the current one! The vice president was definitely better than the current, scary president.

Ah, he didn’t really want to to go see him at the moment. The Student Council president wasn’t really happy with his actions yesterday, but really, it was just a simple dress code … disorder. Okay, so the redhead went a bit overboard, but it was just the first day! Plus he looked cool wearing it like that … not that him, as a first year representative, didn’t say anything about it! He just convinced the president not to give the boy a penalty, and that was that. It definitely didn’t have to do with how attracted he was to the boy’s red hair or anything. Nor his deep red eyes. And he definitely didn’t notice him during the opening ceremony. Of course not, how could he, in the midst of all those students?

A tap made him stop, jumping slightly at the sudden contact with his shoulder. Kee turned around, looking up at the taller boy in confusion. He was smiling at him, and Kee couldn’t deny he looked good, but he was pretty sure he’d never met him before. He stood there, wrinkling his eyebrows, staring at him. And then it clicked. Red hair, red eyes, how could he forget?

“It’s you!” The books almost toppled over, but Kee quickly kept them propped up with the help of his knee. Once he’d balanced the pile of books again, he looked up at the boy with a smile. “You look really different now! I was planning on convincing you to change after a while, but I’m glad you wore it properly~” He did look better like this, didn’t he? Cleaner, more proper but still a bit loose, like that one button left open. Ah, well, he wasn’t that strict. “Oh! The books, right. Then you can just take some of it, if you don’t mind!” Kee stood in his spot, letting Basa take the books he’d help him with. “I don’t think I caught your name …?”
